Tribute for efforts in the wake of the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market
On November 19, 2025, a ceremonial tribute to emergency and rescue services who were on duty during the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market was held at St. John's Church in Magdeburg. Representatives from the emergency services, fire department, police, aid organizations, and surrounding hospitals came together to commemorate this challenging operation and to accept the city of Magdeburg's gratitude.
Magdeburg University Hospital also received a certificate of appreciation during the event. Director of Nursing Christine Michelfeit-Schaper accepted the award on behalf of all employees who had contributed to caring for those affected that evening with great personal dedication.
The special atmosphere of St. John's Church highlighted the importance of professional cooperation, a high level of commitment, and human solidarity in crises.
University Medicine would like to thank all colleagues who were on duty at the time for their tireless contribution and extraordinary commitment. We are delighted about the award and the recognition of this important work.
